![]() Dr. Pedro Hernandez was born and raised in Cuba. He completed his medical training including his internship and residency at The Medical College of Georgia, where he was honored as “Fellow of the Year” in June 2010, in an award given by his professors to the most outstanding young nephrologist. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Nephrology. Dr. Hernandez’ areas of interest are varied and include refractory hypertension, diabetic kidney disease, kidney transplantation (where he has done extensive research in transplant rejection), and chronic kidney disease (CKD). He is a strong proponent of home dialysis. He also has additional training in Dermatology and is especially adept at management of skin manifestations of renal disease. Among his many honors are receiving the prestigious “Lawrence C. Crain” Award given by the National Kidney Foundation in September of 2009. Dr. Hernandez also was an author of “Isoforms of HLA-G and its Inhibitory Receptors in Human Allograft Acceptance” published in Human Immunology in January 2010, an outstanding achievement for a Fellow. He is also the recipient of several “Top Doctor” awards. Dr. Hernandez and his wife love to travel and enjoy movies. He is also an avid sports enthusiast. He is fluent in Spanish. |
